Carinatum/Rib Flare

Pectus Carinatum is a deformity of the chest whereby the sternum and/or ribs attaching to the sternum are excessively deviated anteriorly. Rib flare is a deformity of the anterior lower ribs whereby the ribs are excessively deviated anteriorly or antero-laterally. The experience of orthotist, Gez Bowman CO, who has fitted over 1000 braces is that PC can often be fully corrected and Rib flare mostly corrected if the brace is worn 24/7. Given this assumption, the following calculator is used to predict the outcome of bracing based up the factors of wear time, location and severity.
